Oak Bay Bikes and the Victoria Wheelers present the latest installment of the July 8th Windsor Park Crit. Our apologies for taking so long to post, but there has been so many bike events and cool things happening lately! Here is Trevor McKenzie’s recap:

The Windsor Park Crit B racers saw almost 30 riders come out, including 5 Wheelers: Andy Achuff, Matt Baker, Jeff Bujas, Dan Nanninga and myself.  The race began peppy with several attacks from various clubs.  We did a good job sending a Wheeler in every break, and then attempting to control the tempo at the front of the pack to give them a shot at getting away.  None were successful, but riders were definitely forced to bridge and hopefully burn a few matches in the process.  Halfway through the race Dan Nanninga went down hard,  (I think someone clipped his wheel),  it looked and sounded horrible but he was able to walk it off.  Sadly his bike was in no shape to be ridden, and he was forced to watch from the sidelines.
Things seemed to slow down a bit with 5 laps to go; everyone seemed to be getting ready for the last lap but we still had 4 to play.  Dawn Anderson put in a solid effort with me on her wheel off the front. With 2 laps remaining I got on the Tripleshot train, still second wheel and held it going into the bell lap.  From there, I was joined at the front by a few other riders and found myself going in to the 2nd last corner 6th wheel.  I kicked on the straight and finished 3rd overall;  all things considered it was a great race.  My cornering has improved, and I played more at the front of the pack rather than being too concerned about conserving energy for the sprint.  It’s nice to see I can still have some jam left for the end of this course, after putting in some solid efforts throughout the race.
Thanks to Jenny for organizng the day and for all the volunteers for helping out with the event.  Next Windsor race is July 22nd and note the different start times as the Axel Merckx Youth Series will be a part of the festivities.  See you there!

Check out these great photos from the other races that day:
