The 2012 Norco Brand Book

The 2012 Norco Brand Book

Norco is really pushing it right now with some solid bike designs and a willingness to take risks. They’ve also put out a great little magazine-style “Brand Book” for 2012 which we’re really enjoying. Check it out here, and see if you can recognize any local spots/trails in there!

A customer of ours loved the ride of a Specialized Sirrus but wanted an internally geared hub, so we switched a few things around and built up this thing. It turned out pretty nicely.

Like it. I too liked the fit and ride of the sirrus and thought of the same set up with a front derailer. What sort of out the door price would I be looking at?

Hey Rob, the Sirrus is a fantastic bike for sure, but a front derailleur would somewhat defeat the purpose of going internally geared. If you want a wide gear range, a better option would be to simply get an 11-speed Alfine internally geared hub; they have a ridiculously wide gear range and work very well. Alternatively, we could use a Schlumpf/Hammerschmidt front planetary gear in conjunction with an Alfine-8.

To take it one step further, there are a few people making eccentric BBs that run in standard BB shells. We could use one of those to tension the chain rather than use a chain tensioner.

As for price, do you have a Sirrus already? If we’re selling a new bike, we’d trade the value of the parts coming off the bike directly with the value of the parts going on. Essentially, your price range is going to be somewhere between $800ish for a base model Sirrus with a Nexus 7spd hub, to over $2K for something with an Alfine 11 and eccentric BB, etc.
