Oak Bay Bikes and Fawcett & Company teamed up in June, for an exciting new event in bicycle touring. With the help of Progetta Avventura, they stitched together a varied route through the best of Italy between Rome and Florence. The final journey featured nearly 700 km of riding, 17 000 m of climbing, and better than 60 hours of riding time, all squeezed into nine days.
With thousands of years of history, present day culture, and exciting geography the stages were much more than just rides and each had their own flavor. To get a taste check out tour guide Kayla Vandermolen’s day by day coverage at the Fawcett & Co blog, first entry is here.
Of course all that riding made for hungry cyclists so there were gourmet and rustic meals featuring local ingredients and dishes. After a long day of pedaling and multiple feasts everyone is tired, so comfortable stays in beautiful surroundings rounded out this epic excursion.
It wasn’t all cityscapes, the countryside beckoned as well.
