Nanaimo Build: Kona Operator

Nanaimo Build: Kona Operator

The 2012 Norco Brand Book

The 2012 Norco Brand Book

Norco is really pushing it right now with some solid bike designs and a willingness to take risks. They’ve also put out a great little magazine-style “Brand Book” for 2012 which we’re really enjoying. Check it out here, and see if you can recognize any local spots/trails in there!

Jacob was looking for a flat bar commuter, but he wanted to future proof the bike in terms of potential changes to intended use. We set up him with a Salsa Vaya frame, and built it up with solid, dependable stuff that’s going to serve him well: Avid BB7 Road discs, Nimbus Armadillo tires, Deore-level drivetrain, OEM XT touring crankset we had kicking around (score!), etc…

Whether he turns it into a full-on touring bike, endurance winter road bike, adventure camping ride, or leaves it as a solid commuter, he’s got a pretty fantastic platform to work with and a bike that should last him many decades.

why did you use the BB7 roads with MTB brakes? Is the lever throw a problem?

We used BB7 road calipers in case he ever goes to drop bars, and we just set the levers up with cantilever pull instead of linear pull.
