OBB Victoria’s Gillian Carleton was hit by a car today. First and foremost, she’s okay, but she has a few cracked ribs and some serious muscle/tissue damage to her leg.
I just picked them up from the hospital as the painkillers were kicking in so the details are a little sketchy, but it sounds like she was on a hill heading home from a training ride (she’s the BC Time Trial champion) when a truck backed out directly in front of her and she smashed into the side of it.
It’s another reminder to be careful out there; just because you have the right of way on your bike doesn’t mean you’re safe!
And Gillian, get better soon! Your co-workers are going to miss you in the next little bit!

Wow. Hope you’re OK. Write everything down before you deal with ICBC – you need to report the accident to protect your interests in the future – every detail you can remember including weather, pedestrians, other cars….and don’t make any judgements/statements about how you are/feel for awhile as it takes time for the bad stuff to appear sometimes. Also note if you mis work time, or any other events that are important to your life/work.
I know this sounds gloomy – sorry. Best wishes for a full recovery for you and the bike. – Allan (Hugh’s dad)

Perhaps this would be a good time to try out the HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment) It has done wonders for me, I would highly recommend it for your FAST recovery. There is one in your city, B has the address. Just thinking, if it was a commercial truck with NO back up beeper, perhaps you will have a better chance to get this guy slapped?

Wow Gillian, just heard about the crash. I hope you heal soon and come back stronger. I’m glad to hear that your more or less ok. I would definitely take heed to Alan Pollock, so that things work out in your best interest. Let me know if there is anything I could do to aid your recovery.
