2011 Specialized Roubaix SL3 ExpertThis isn’t technically a custom build, but we like the 2011 Specialized Roubaix SL3 Expert so much we had to share it. The frame is a shocking 1000g, and the complete bike—out of the box with a chromoly railed seat and several other places to easily drop some weight—comes in at 17.2 lbs.

Whether you’re racing Cat 1 or hitting some Gran Fondos this year, this bike is perfect for folks looking at a light, stiff, endurance road bike. Most of the riding around here has its fair share of less than stellar pavement, so the slightly slacker angles, 25/23c tires, and Zerts inserts make a big difference reducing road chatter. Folks planning on winning the Tour next year should probably look at the Tarmac instead, as it has tighter geometry and a slightly lower front end, but for most folks out there the Roubaix is the sweet spot.

MSRP is $4159, our price is $3949.

We have a 52cm 2011 Roubaix SL3 Expert in our Demo Fleet, so anyone wanting to try one on a longer ride is able to. We also have a 56cm coming in the next week or two, and have a 54cm in last year’s version as well. The cost of a demo ride is $60 to cover the post-demo tuneup and minor wear, and we reimburse you your $60 if you end up buying a bike from us.
